Marketing is integral to the smooth running of businesses, especially when it comes to online presence and exposure. However, Christmas is the time when people make more purchases than at any other time of year. From gifts and food to drinks and partying, the economy sees a huge upturn in the amount of money people spend.

Although this year isn’t expected to keep up with previous trends, due to the cost of living crisis, we’re still likely to see an increase in how much money we spend on the aforementioned. So how can you advertise your goods and services online during the most important time of year? Here are a few marketing ideas you could use over the festive period:

Email marketing

Email marketing is incredibly effective, especially if you have existing customers on your mailing list. If done properly, you’ll be able to plug as many of your goods and/or services as possible and market it towards people who have already made a purchase with you in the past. However, emailing prospective customers would have, nearly, the same effect, especially if you’ve been specifically targeting that audience. An email can contain links to products, for example, making it even easier for the customer to find the item you’re advertising.

Influencer marketing

Influencer marketing has taken off in recent years, mainly with the explosion of popular figures on social media, such as on Instagram and, more recently, TikTok. This is the perfect opportunity to “gift” your products to an influencer for them to advertise on their social media account. However, this will only really work if they have a substantial, legitimate following. Christmas is the best time of year to do this, mainly because of the Christmas gift guides that appear.

If you send an influencer an item you have for sale, like a woolly hat or a quality pair of gloves for example, then ask them to include it in their ‘Christmas Gift Guide for Him’ or their ‘Christmas Gift Guide for Her’. These guides give people inspiration when it comes to Christmas shopping and if the influencer’s audience sees them donning a lovely woolly hat, which is on sale for a reasonable price, they’ll be far more likely to want to purchase that item themselves.

Content marketing

Content marketing is one of the best ways in which you can get your brand out there. This is because there are a wide range of vessels and platforms upon which to display content. Some of the content pieces that could be produced and published and shared online to advertise your business and the products and/or services you sell may include, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Articles
  • Blog posts
  • White papers
  • Press releases
  • Infographics
  • Posters
  • Leaflets
  • Booklets
  • Podcasts
  • Videos

There are many different options available to most companies. No matter the industry you work in, there will be a content piece that can be created, published and shared online that’ll generate exposure and increase leads and sales in the process. Content can be tailored specifically to your business, with a formal tone of voice for the most professional of law firms, for example, and an informal tone for a soft play centre, as another example. This is why content marketing is so favoured among the industry. It’s incredibly versatile, adaptable and flexible, so it suits every kind of business no matter what you do. Content marketing is useful for many different reasons:

  • Promoting a new product or service
  • Advertising a discount or a sale
  • Informing people that you’ve moved locations
  • Sharing information articles to increase traffic
  • Building trust between a company and their readers with accurate content
  • Getting your brand message across
