Blogging remains one of the most effective ways to build brand authority, attract organic traffic and connect with your audience. But one of the most common questions bloggers and businesses face is: “How often should I publish new blog posts?”. The answer very much depends on your resources, audience, time and goals.

However, there are some proven guidelines you can follow to help you find the ultimate blog posting rhythm that works for you and your audience. In this article, we’ll be helping you work out how often you should be blogging for the best possible SEO results, together with how Kumo can help you along your content creation journey.

Finding the right frequency

When it comes to blogging at the right frequency, you should first think about your blogging goals. This will determine how often you should be posting on your blog. Essentially, your blogging frequency should always align with what you’re trying to achieve. You should look at things like: traffic and SEO growth, brand awareness, lead generation or sales and even thought leadership. Let’s take a closer look at the aforementioned things:

  • Traffic and SEO growth – post as frequently as possible (around 2-4 times a week) if you want to build topical authority and capture additional keywords
  • Brand awareness – weekly or biweekly publishing will help you to stay as visible as possible, without overwhelming your readers in the process
  • Lead generation or sales – focus on high-quality, conversion-oriented posts – always choose quality over quantity
  • Thought leadership – even one insightful post per month can position you as an expert if it’s in-depth and original, so focus on those two things when creating your content

What does the data say about blogging frequency?

According to SQMagazine, 50% of marketers publish around 2-4 blog posts every month, at least. However, only 3% of professional bloggers publish posts daily. This is quite the difference. Although weekly blog post posting is more popular, with 24% publishing at that frequency. But having said that, 23% of bloggers are publishing content several times a month.

There’s clearly no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to blogging frequencies, and it can depend on multiple things, including time, money and the industry you’re writing for. So, does posting blog posts more frequently mean stronger results when it comes to brand awareness, exposure and website traffic?

The same source suggests that, yes. Posting on a blog more frequently provides better SEO results when compared to blogs that only post once a month. HubSpot claims that companies publishing 16 or more blog posts a month receive 3.5 times more traffic when compared to companies posting 0-4 times a month, further solidifying the findings above.

Quality & consistency: it’s not just frequency that rules the roost

While you might think that frequent blog post publishing is the same thing as consistent blog post publishing, you’d be mistaken. Just because you’re posting frequently doesn’t mean that posting is consistent. Consistently, would be making sure you’re publishing on certain days and at specific times throughout the course of a week. For example, some bloggers schedule their blog posts to go live every Tuesday and Friday at 9 am, which is a structure we follow here at Kumo.

Your audience needs to know when to check back for new content. If one week you’re posting on a Tuesday and Friday, and the next you’re posting on a Monday and a Saturday, and then posting the following week on a Wednesday and Thursday, then your audience won’t have a clue about when to come back for fresh content. Consistent posting would mean two blog posts a week on the same days at the same times, week after week.

This is something that Google values, generally, and it’s where planning comes in. You need to have a schedule in place that allows for regular and consistent posting. Something else that Google loves is quality content. Content that is accurate, engaging and grammatically correct will perform better in the search engine results pages (SERPs) than content that is poor quality or that has been written by AI.

That brings us to the next point – avoiding AI to write the entity of your content. While it’s a good way of getting ideas and providing a framework for the content you want to write, it’s important that you aren’t relying solely on AI to write your content. While it might save time in the short term, your website’s performance will suffer in the long term. Google penalises content written 100% by AI tools, so be careful and find a balance if you must use it.

How can I achieve frequent blogging?

If you want to post blog posts frequently and consistently, then you need to make sure you have some ideas and a schedule in place. You should also carve out some time to get the content planned, researched and written before you even begin to think about posting it online. Content creation and publishing seem easy and simple, but there’s a lot more that goes on behind the scenes that makes it a complex task when you want to get the best SEO results. So, how can you do it yourself? Here are some of our tips:

  • Plan blog post ideas and run them past peers to gauge their thoughts and opinions
  • Block-write blog posts so that they’re ready to go and can be scheduled for specific days and times throughout the week
  • Research your blog post ideas thoroughly and proofread your content before publishing, as Google likes quality content that is fact-checked
  • You need to carve out a considerable amount of time for content creation, so make sure you have some quiet time away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the business
  • To make your life as easy as possible, choose a digital marketing firm to create content for you, such as us here at Kumo

To conclude: how often should I be blogging?

To answer the main question, you should be posting around four times a week if you want to get the most out of brand awareness, exposure and performance in the SERPs, claims HubSpot. They think you should be posting 16 times a month for ultimate results. Over the course of four weeks, that’s four times a week. Plan your content and choose specific days and times to post your content.

You could post on a Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 10 am, for example. No matter how often you choose to publish content, whether it be once a week or once a month, make sure it’s consistent and that you’re posting quality content every single time that is relevant to your audience.
